Honolulu is the capital of the Hawaii State in the US. It is also the largest city in Hawaii as well as serving as the main gateway into the state of Hawaii. The city is found on the southern shore of the Oahu Island on the North Pacific Ocean, and currently forms the tourism, international business, and cultural hub of Hawaii.
One of the most visited places is the Waikiki region. The area is home to the best dining places, shopping options, and a super vibrant nightlife. The Waikiki region hosts the highly sought after scenic beauty at the famous Crescent beach, stunning with white sands and lines and lines of palm trees. The area is also famed for its numerous high-end hotels, and beach resorts compete with a dazzling view of the Diamond Head Crater head in the far distance.
Another spot with a beautiful beach with calm waters is the Ala Moana District, where tourists frequent to partake of the fantastic breeze and scenic beauty around. Here, the massive Ala Moana Center shopping complex provides for all shopping needs, from food to fashion items and more.
The iconic State Capitol building is located in downtown Hawaii closely placed with Lolani Place. The famous Lolani Place is known to be the former residence for the Hawaiian Royal Family but presently serves as a museum. Both spots are fantastic tourist attractions and carry much history for Hawaii.
More of the history and cultural development of Hawaii is available in the Hawaii State Art Museum and the Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum, where displays of the ancient and present-day antique pieces are showcased. The famous Chinatown contains more history about Hawaii, and it is located in the Arts District.
The USS Arizona Memorial is yet another beautiful and deeply informative spot and is home to the historical details about the attack on Pearl Harbor during World War II. The famous Punchbowl region is used as a cemetery but was initially an open crater space.
The scenic beauty of Honolulu extends to its several canyons, beautiful and natural rainforests, high and attractive waterfalls, stunning coral reefs, as well as beautiful dazzling beaches.

When to visit Honolulu

Honolulu experiences a tropical climate. During summer, the days are hot and dry as a result of the rain shadow effect (rainfall is very minimal throughout the season). The nights are however cool and tolerable. Winter, on the other hand, is wet as most of the rain falls during the season. The temperature is pretty mild and tolerable, and a lot warmer than winter should be. Snowfall during winter is rare though.
The peak tourist season falls between December and August, during which time the excess summer heat cools down considerably, making it possible to explore Honolulu and all its beauty.
During the wet season, Honolulu engages in numerous water activities including surfing, swimming, competitions, and whale-watching. There are key events that run throughout the year in Honolulu.
One such event is the Kamehameha Day which is held in June. Another one is Japan's Golden Week that runs from late April to early May. Both events feature colorful decorations, impressive performances and shows, and fantastic talent showcasing throughout Honolulu. One other major event is the Aloha Festival that is held in September, amid traditional music performances, dancing shows, craftwork displays, and other talent showcasing to be appreciated and celebrated. The Honolulu Marathon attracts spectators and performers from far and wide, making it a great tourist attraction.
