Detroit, MI

Detroit is the largest city in the state of Michigan in the United States. It is also the most populated city in the state and among the top most populated cities in the United States, serving as the official seat of Wayne County. Along the United States- Canada Border, Detroit remains the most significant American city. Metro Detroit, the metropolitan region of Detroit, is the second in size among all the metropolitan areas in the US.
The city of Detroit sits on a unique location on the Detroit River, with a significant port that forms one of the most vibrant ports in the United States. The Ambassador Bridge is a long and intricately designed modern bridge that has been used as a connection between Detroit and Windsor in Ontario, Canada, across the Detroit River. The Detroit-Windsor Tunnel is also another connection between the two cities, being one of the busiest ever crossing between Canada and the United States.
Detroit prides itself on its vibrant music culture, enormous contributions to the music industry, and for being a big advocate for unique arts, masterpiece designs, and stunning architectural designs.
With a stunning neon-lit skyline at dusk, Detroit has some of the most intricate designs on the majority of its buildings. Modern designs have been featured in the beautiful dome-shaped greenhouse and botanical garden in the Belle Isle Conservatory, the iconic skyscraper of the Fisher Buildings, the famous Old Main building within the Wayne State University, and the ultra-modern architecture of the Detroit Institute of Arts.
In downtown Detroit, there is the sprawling Comerica Park, home to the famed Tigers baseball team's playgrounds, as well as the Fox Theatre performance Hall. Numerous museums, art galleries, and memorial spots around downtown Detroit allow public access to beautiful works of art from over the years.

When to visit Detroit

The climate of Detroit is typical of the humid continental climate of Köppen Dfa, as influenced by the Great Lakes. Generally, the weather is characterized by cold and moderately freezing winters and warm to hot and moderately dry summers. Spring and summer, however, are susceptible to thunderstorms during the rainy afternoons, and visitors remain advised accordingly.
Snowfall might be experienced from as early as mid-October for a few hours per day and spread through mid-April when only traces can be seen. Summer is the rainiest season, with June as the wettest month when the rain gauge collects 3.5" (88.9mm) of precipitation from about eleven rainy afternoons.
Detroit experiences both weather extremes, and as such, makes an excellent tourist destination regardless of the time of year. While the cold lovers frequent the city during winter, the heat lovers set in during summer, between June and August, which so happens to be the peak of the travel period. Summer days are not only warm; they are also moderately dry and have extended daylight hours to allow for a perfect experience of the city.
Being a motor city, Detroit indulges in the North American International Auto Show in January, in a bid to celebrate the milestones of the motor industry and to showcase new cars and new technologies. Music shows and performance concerts are common during the Movement Electronic Music Festival in May and the Detroit Jazz Festival in September, both with huge crowds and international star performances.
