Port Charlotte experiences a warm subtropical type of climate (Köppen climate classification Cfa) with hot and humid summers and warm winters.
Port Charlotte is a census-designated place in Charlotte County, south of Tampa and northwest of Punta Gorda, in the American state of Florida. The port lies in the proximity of the Gulf of Mexico, which influences the climate to a certain extent. The low altitude, tropical latitudes and proximity to ocean waters keep the temperatures warm throughout the year.

Port Charlotte lies along the Gulf Coast of Florida, and with more than 150 miles of waterways, is the gateway to the Gulf of Mexico. The region has a total area of 32.3 square miles, of which 12% is water. The port is almost at sea level and consists of soft white-sand beaches, shrublands and palm trees. Annual precipitation is around 50" (1270mm) with a peak period from June to September, as the climate borders on the tropical wet and dry type. Port Charlotte registers around 262 sunny days during the year. The humidity reaches up to 74% in September. Fog is prevalent at times, but snow is rare. Lightning strikes are a constant threat, especially in the late spring and summer.

The best time to visit Port Charlotte is from March to May when the temperatures are relatively mild, the humidity is the least of the year, and the rainfall is minimal. The spring months are also relatively drier, the skies are peaceful without the threat of storms, and there are numerous sunny days.
