Minneapolis is the largest city in the US state of
Minnesota and among the top largest cities in the United States. The city is the official seat of the county of Hennepin, the most populated county in Minnesota. Together with Saint Paul city, Minneapolis forms the famous Twin Cities, which in turn creates the third-largest economic center in the entire Midwest region.
Minneapolis is located on the banks of the Mississippi River, to the northern part where the Mississippi and Minnesota rivers meet up. In total, there are thirteen lakes in the city, several wetlands, many creeks, and several waterfalls. Minneapolis is somewhat adjoined to the capital of Minnesota, Saint Paul, and as such, is home to the most vibrant lifestyle in the region.
Minneapolis has been put in the global city category because of its significant contribution to the economy of the state.
Music is the backbone of the city, and there are numerous music and art venues in Minneapolis that showcase anything music; rap, hip-hop, funk, rock, and folk. Renowned musicians like Lizzo, Prince, Dessa, Bob Dylan, Atmosphere, Brother Ali, and many more have been brought up and produced in this city. Guthrie Theater and the iconic First Avenue nightclub, both award-winners, are found in Minneapolis.
The city has been named as one of the cities that have the highest rates of LGBT communities in the entire United States of America.
Some of the attractive spots around Minneapolis include the ever-scenic Minnehaha Falls on the Minnehaha creek, found within the beautiful and natural Minnehaha Park. The Mississippi River is another outstanding feature in Minneapolis, representing one of the longest rivers of the United States.
Minneapolis experiences a humid continental climate that is typical of Köppen Dfa. The general characteristics of its weather are extremely cold, snowy winters and warm to hot, humid summers. There is a great deal of the temperature differences in the highs and lows, and Minneapolis is susceptible to weather hazards like ice storms, thunderstorms, sleet, and heatwaves.
Rainfall is moderately ample, most of it falling during the summer afternoons. The rainiest month happens to be
August, albeit with a moderately low 4.3" (109.2mm) precipitation.
The peak of the travel period to Minneapolis is between
May and
September, during summer. The weather remains warm throughout, and since the rainfall is not extremely high, touring the city is perfect during the period. Summer experiences extended daylight hours, another excellent reason to visit Minneapolis in the summer. Most of the events and festivals held in the city happen to fall within the summer, another big reason as to why summer is the peak travel season to Minneapolis.
The Saint Paul Festival is held in
June, and the streets come alive with live music bands, beautiful parades, colorful costumes, and endless feasting. In
July, another event is held in a bid to celebrate and be thankful for the ample amount of water in the city, during the Aquatennial Festival. Family-themed parties are held, activities on the water bodies are showcased, and colorful fireworks are displayed as the culmination. In
February, Minneapolis comes together to cheer and appreciate participants in all the sports activities like skiing and racing, which happen during the City of Lakes Loppet Festival.
