Arches National Park has a tropical and subtropical type of climate (Köppen climate classification BSk) with hot summers and cold winters. It lies on the Colorado Plateau, near the Colorado River, in the Grand County of eastern Utah. The park has an arid landscape as it lies in the high desert region of the Colorado Plateau, and is famous for natural sandstone arches.

Arches National Park has an average elevation of 1484 meters above sea level. The landscape consists of arches, rocks, sandstone fins, spires, and salt domes. The terrain is fragile, and the dry soil has a low resistance to the annual foot traffic of more than a million visitors. The vegetation consists of many types of cacti, grasses, lichens, mosses, pines, and primroses, to name a few.

Summers are hot in Arches National Park as the average high temperature touches a scorching 100°F (37.8°C) in July and 36 days during the year cross the 100°F (37.8°C) barrier. Winters are chilly with the average low temperature of 22°F (-5.6°C) in January as many nights drop below freezing. Spring is cold during March and gradually warms up to comfortable temperatures by May. Autumn cools down slowly from September to November with freezing temperatures by the end of the season.

The annual precipitation is a scanty 8.7" (221mm) in Arches National Park, which occurs evenly throughout the year with an average rainfall of less than 1" (25.4mm) in each month. The park receives light snowfall averaging 6.6" (167.6mm) annually and 2.5" (63.5mm) in December, the most in a month. The park gets ample sunshine and daylight for the majority of the year except for the coldest winter periods. Afternoon thunderstorms are frequent during the summer accompanied by lightning and occasionally cause flash floods.

The record high temperature in Moab, the nearest town 4 miles south of Arches National Park is 114°F (45.6°C), set on July 7, 1989, while the coldest temperature on record is -24°F (-31.1°C), established on January 22, 1930.

The best time to visit Arches National Park is in spring, from April to May, and fall, from mid-September to October when the conditions are temperate. The daytime high temperatures are in the moderate 60°F (15.6°C) to 80°F (26.7°C), while the lows are between a comfortable 30°F (-1.1°C) to 50°F (10°C). All the roads and trails are open, and the sun rays are mild with a chance of an occasional shower. The park offers many recreational activities that are enjoyable in moderate weather.

The worst time to visit Arches National Park is during peak summer in July and August and the cold winter from December to February. Summer temperatures regularly go above 100°F (37.8°C), making it difficult for physical exertion in the blazing sun. Additionally, late summer sees frequent thunderstorms. Winters are chilly with the low temperatures registering between 0°F (-17.8°C) to 20°F (-6.7°C) regularly and snowfall. There are no natural barriers to block the cold winds.

Arches National Park is prone to thunderstorms and lightning strikes during the long and dry summer, especially during July and August. The arid landscape with sparse vegetation is incapable of holding rainfall, and even small storms can cause flash floods within a short duration. Winters are cold with rare snowstorms, but the roads and trails face closure even with small amount of snow.
