Niagara Falls has a humid continental type of climate (Köppen climate classification Dfb) with warm, humid summers and cold, snowy winters.
Niagara Falls lies in the Niagara County of the Western New York region near the international border between the United States and Canada. The city takes its name from the famous Niagara Falls, and the proximity of the Niagara River, Lake Erie and Lake Ontario with large bodies of water influence its climate.

Summer temperatures peak in July with the average high temperature around 81°F (27.2°C). Many days touch 90°F (32.2°C), but the humidity levels make the heat sweltering than the temperatures. Cloudy skies do not allow the temperatures to fall drastically in the nights.
Winters are severely cold with low temperatures regularly dropping below 0°F (-17.8°C), and even -10°F (-23.3°C) in the event of snowstorms. Niagara Falls is cold in the winter due to polar winds blowing from the Canadian plains and sees heavy snowfall on the ground.
Spring is unpredictable with rain, frost, and snow until the mid of the season. Autumn occasionally hosts an Indian summer, consisting of sunny days with temperatures above 77°F (25°C).

Average precipitation is around an annual 35" (889mm) with an even distribution of rain throughout the year - there is scarcely any dry period due to the continuous clashes of warm and cold air masses over the region. Fresh snow falls for an average of 52 days in the year. December to March experiences heavy snow as the annual accumulation is in the range of 76" (1930.4mm). Sunshine is plenty in the summer while it tapers down in the other seasons, registering around 2030 hours over the year. Niagara Falls is a wet and humid region; the skies are mostly cloudy throughout the year except during the summer season.

The record high temperature for Niagara Falls is 97°F (36.1°C), set in 2005, while the record low temperature is -15°F (-26.1°C), set in 1996.
