Lake George is a moderately small town that is found within the region of Adirondack in the state of New York. The area is surrounded by moderately dense forestry plus the mountainous growth and shrubs typical of the region. The town sits on Lake George, a famous oligotrophic lake that is located at the southeastern side of the foot of the Adirondack Mountains. Lake George is narrow and long and has a convenient location to the northeastern side of the state of New York, in the United States. This location falls within the Great Appalachian Valley's upper area, between the Hudson and St Lawrence valleys, and allows the water to drown into both the St. Lawrence River drainage basin and Lake Champlain.
Along the shores of Lake George, sits Fort William Henry Museum and Restoration center, a British Fort that dates back into 1755 but has been restored and refurbished. Close by is the glorious Million Dollar Beach, complete in attractive picnicking spots and a shared boat launch location. Visitors throng these locations for all manners of fun activities, including swimming, boating, kayaking, and canoeing.
For the best sweeping and scenic views of Lake George Town and the entire region, visitors take to the Prospect Mountain Veterans Memorial Highway. The same can be achieved from atop the highest points of the Adirondack Mountain, too.
Other amazing spots from which the entire Lake George can be viewed include Bolton Landing, Sabbath Day Point, Isles Point, and from atop the Buck Mountain in Fort Ann.
