Arizona is a southwestern US state with an area of 113,990 square miles (295,233 sq km). Its population in 2022 is estimated to be 7,359,197. The capital is Phoenix and it is bordered by Mexico and the states of Utah, New Mexico, California, and Nevada. Humphreys Peak is the highest point at 12,633 ft (3,850 m) and the state is home to Grand Canyon and Petrified Forest national parks.
Organized as a territory in 1863, Arizona became the 48th state in 1912. Its population has grown rapidly in recent decades because of its climate, with one-fifth of the people speaking Spanish and around 5% belonging to American Indian tribes such as the Navajo, Hopi, Apache, Papago, and Pima. Its economy includes agriculture, mining, aerospace, electronics, and tourism.
This great state is known as the Grand Canyon State and its motto is "Ditat Deus (God Enriches)". Its state bird is the Coues’ cactus wren, while the saguaro cactus blossom is its state flower. The two state songs are “Arizona
March Song” and “Arizona”. It currently has nine seats in the United States House of Representatives, out of 435 total, and observes Mountain Time Zone (GMT -7 hours).
