A quiet afternoon turns violent

Mineral Wells, TX sat under thickening clouds as storms began to build over North Texas. At first, it was just another round of spring weather. Dark skies, distant thunder.

Then the wind surged.

Roofs peeled away. Walls gave in. Debris lifted into the air and spun through neighborhoods as the storm pushed through the city. What stood minutes earlier was suddenly broken, scattered across streets and yards.

Emergency crews arrived quickly, moving through damaged blocks where homes and businesses had been hit. At least two people were taken to the hospital, while others were treated nearby for minor injuries. No deaths were reported.

A powerful tornado cuts across the city

The storm carried more than heavy rain and wind. It brought a tornado.

The National Weather Service later confirmed the twister as an EF-3, with winds reaching up to 145 miles per hour. It carved through Mineral Wells, TX, damaging buildings, tearing through industrial areas and leaving a visible path of destruction.

Several miles of the city were affected. Residential streets and business zones were hit alike. Some structures were badly damaged. Others were reduced to debris.

The storm did not linger. It moved on. But the damage remained.

Damage spreads and the city locks down

Across Mineral Wells, fallen trees and broken power lines covered roads. Entire sections became unsafe to enter. Officials declared a local disaster and imposed a nighttime curfew to keep people out of dangerous areas.

Authorities warned of hazards still scattered across the city. Debris, exposed wires, unstable buildings. Relief centers were opened to help families who had lost homes or could not return safely.

Nearby, the storm showed its full strength. Massive hailstones fell in parts of Texas and into neighboring states, some as large as grapefruits. Vehicles were dented and shattered. Power lines came down.

Part of a larger, active pattern

This was not a single storm. It was part of a broader stretch of severe weather that has been moving across the region for days.

Earlier, another tornado struck Runaway Bay, TX, leaving fatalities and additional destruction. Since then, storms have continued to develop, producing tornadoes, hail and damaging winds across multiple states.

Meteorologists point to a strong cold front colliding with warm, unstable air, creating the kind of environment where storms intensify quickly and turn dangerous.

Storms continue to move east

The system is still moving. From Texas toward Arkansas and Mississippi, the threat remains. More storms are expected, with the potential for additional tornadoes, large hail and damaging winds.

In Mineral Wells, TX, the wind has eased, but the work continues. Crews clear debris. Residents walk through damaged streets.

The storm has passed. The impact has not.
